The Affair explores the emotional effects of an extramarital relationship between Noah Solloway and Alison Bailey after the two meet in the resort town of Montauk on Long Island. No marriage is beyond temptation, and there is no refuting the connection set in motion when Noah and Alison meet by chance. What follows is far more than an intimate portrait; it’s a unique and thrilling narrative that unravels the dangerous truth layer by layer.
We learned on The Affair Season 2 Episode 8 that true love can paint you in a very positive light, while self loathing may take a bite out of you. If Noah hadn't thought so poorly about himself, he could have come out of this one looking pretty good.
Helen is a blast in this one. She brings shots and beers and is generally hilarious as she full on laughs in his face when he start whining about how hard it is to be a white male author in 2015.
It's not fair to call the comedy in the show underrated anymore, since I praise it every week. So I'll just say that I hope everyone appreciates the lighter moments in the series as much as I do.
Where all this is leading isn't quite clear yet, but between Noah's continued disconnection from Alison and his lawyer's work to pin the whole Scotty murder on Alison in the upcoming trial, things certainly do appear to be unraveling.
She's proud of his success, because she now understands this is what he always wanted. To Helen's credit, and why she's my favorite character at this point, that doesn't mean she excuses Noah's infidelity.
So here's something interesting I just noticed this week: Whereas last year The Affair only occasionally let the female perspective kick off an episode, almost consistently this season, the ladies have been leading the action.
