Season two gets off to a cracking, confident start, not worrying about moving the story forwards too much or lingering over the series one finale cliffhanger.
The show returns with its infectious blend of sex, superpowers, violence, toilet humour and outrageous plotting intact, making Kick-Ass look like a Disney film.
It feels like over the break between the seasons, the producers, writers, actors, and crew polished all the rough edges away. Every line feels just a little bit funnier.
But last night's debut of season two was dominated by the dopiest of standard-issue sci-fi plots, the arrival of a shape shifter with the ability to morph into the appearance of the Misfits.
