InsecureĀ - Season 2 Episode 08: Hella Perspective
Season 2 opens with Issa struggling in the aftermath of her breakup with Lawrence, while facing challenges at a new work assignment. Meanwhile, Molly questions her worth at work; and Lawrence adjusts to his new living arrangement.
This episode also does what Insecure does best, give you the angle of the characters' point of view and then hit you with that shocker! Basically, the cinematography on the finale is on point.
Initially appearing to be completely built around Rae, Insecure became a three-headed monster, allowing Ellis and Yvonne Orji to fully shine on their own.
Through those multiple storylines, those shifting angles and changes in focus, we see Insecure handle character development in a new, significantly more nuanced way.
Can Issa come back from her crushing all-out fall out with Lawrence? Will Molly stay true to her word and kick Dro to the curb? Can you believe it's all ending so soon?!
The episode feels oddly stagnant after the explosive, emotional moments of Hella Disrespectful. It's a beautifully shot and hilarious finale, but it also takes a lot of shortcuts.
The Season 2 finale of Insecure in many ways felt as significant as we've come to expect season finales of prestige dramedies to be. It was ambitious in its direction
