How to Get Away With Murder - Season 1 Episode 01: Pilot
Annalise is a high-profile defense attorney, teaching a class at Middleton University. She selects a group of her best students to work at her firm. They are Connor Walsh, Michaela Pratt, Asher Millstone, Laurel Castillo and Wes Gibbins. Little do they know that they will have to apply what they learned to real life, in this masterful, sexy, suspense-driven legal thriller. Annalise lives with her husband, Sam Keating, but she also has a secret relationship with Nate Lahey, a local Philadelphia detective. How to Get Away with Murder follows the personal and professional life of Annalise Keating.
It's ambitious, for sure, to pack so much meat into a pilot. And part of what rescues How To Get Away With Murder from collapsing under the weight of its narrative is that it's fun to watch.
I like to think #HTGAWM is a juicy mix of Pretty Little Liars ("We have to hide this body, girls!") and Legally Blonde ("FOUR of you will come join me at my firm!") with just a little hint of A Few Good Men to keep things classy.
It's got all of the makings of a hit: compelling characters, an intriguing mystery, and immeasurable potential to grow as a series. At this point I can't wait to see how the rest of the season plays out.
In other words, WTGAWM - Rated W...for WHAT?! Whoa! - is the most delicious thing to come along since the cronut (but with only one-third to one-half the calories, dependent on how much red wine you guzzled during Scandal.)
