In the fourth season, Carrie is working as a CIA station chief in Kabul, Afghanistan. Pakistan station chief Sandy Bachman tips Carrie about the location of terrorist target Haissam Haqqani in Pakistan. Carrie orders an air strike, supposedly killing Haqqani, and 40 civilians are killed as a wedding was taking place at his location. A survivor of the air strike, Aayan Ibrahim, after losing his family, returns to medical college where his friend uploads the wedding video from Aayan';;;s phone. This causes uproar and Carrie is recalled to the U.S. by CIA Director Lockhart.
As viewers, we love Carrie to be, uh, unorthodox, but I'm loving how this season is carefully working to justify just how badly this will all explode in her face.
Normally, viewers don't have a hard time reading romantic subtext into any male/female partnership, but this Carrie-Quinn (Quarrie?) thing is flummoxing at best. Aside from the writers, has anyone been shipping these two?
I'm really pleased there is a central mystery wrapped around Bachman's death, including his treasonous activities to get data and who might have given him the green light to carry them out.
While I understand why a panicked writers' room would resort to a romantic subplot -- like it or not, the new pace of this show is sluggish compared to what fans were used to -- matching up Carrie and Quinn is a terrible idea.
