Fear the Walking Dead - Season 5 Episode 08: Is Anybody Out There?
Season 5 begins with a new series of drama and action, where the group begins new and unexpected risks in search of survivors. In order to find new survivor; the group will land in an unknown area, where Morgan and Alicia meet a survivor. Meanwhile, the group is struggling to carry out new tasks and lofty goals.
It's hard to say why sometimes that Fear the Walking Dead is such a satisfying and exciting show, but "Is Anybody Out There?" showcases that element really well.
["Is Anybody Out There] was a real diamond in the rough. It proved there was still life yet in this spinoff, and part of the success of the installment was that our heroes finally escaped that horrible location.
All of that build up and no drama. These eight episodes could have been covered in four episodes, plus Althea's. The show is avoiding the questions we really want to know.
The inane plot contrivances were stacked on top of each other, and the lapses in logic were plentiful. And yet, the episode still mostly worked, thanks to the happy ending the characters receive.
Will Fear have danger and deaths and shocking surprises going forward? For sure. But hopefully they hold on to this feeling, this kindness. Because having a sweet, caring zombie show is... Nice.
When Strand and Al were desperately trying to land the plane... it was a cheer-worthy moment. It was the reunions and other moments that really made the episode special, though.
I can't say this unlikely alliance left me on the edge of my seat. But I'll borrow a page from this season's playbook by being optimistic regarding what the future holds for Fear.
An intense mid-season finale. The ending was a bit anti-climactic. Felt like there was going to be something bigger. All the same, Father Gore would prefer the huge stuff be left for the actual season finale.
