Spin off series of The Walking Dead that portrays the beginning events of the zombie apocalypse in the West coast during the same time frame when the city of Atlanta was falling under attack, while Rick was in a coma at the local hospital. It shows how the strain was already in full effect in the south while it's just starting in California.
It's admirable how boldly Fear The Walking Dead establishes itself as a subtler, slower burn than its guts-and gore-filled predecessor, but the shambling pace may end up testing the patience of more restless viewers.
Fear the Walking Dead feels like a worthy extension because it gives another perspective, from Los Angeles, on a global crisis. There are stories beyond Rick Grimes and his fearless, tested band.
Brake for the Walking Dead. Wave at the Walking Dead. Rip open a bag of Doritos, pour yourself a Mountain Dew and gawk at the Walking Dead. Just trying to think of ways to make this show more interesting.
Even if the kids are jerks, it's still pretty damn poignant to watch this group try to make sense of the apocalypse that they haven't a clue is upon them.
