The series revolves around Henry Deaver, a man who functions as a legal counselor for the individuals who have a capital punishment. One day, Deaver gets a call from obscure individual forces him to come back to the place where he grew up in Castle Rock, specific in a prison named Shawshank State Penitentiary. There, his dull past starts to show up and he needs to confront it.
If "Severance" is any indication, it's not the diverse strands of the Stephen King Extended Universe that's holding this thing together: It's André Holland... He makes Castle Rock feel like a drama, not the haunted-house ride at the county fair.
It's the essence of King the show is after, and for the most part, it does a good job of focusing in on what makes his stories so memorable in the first place: the characters.
Shortly after thrusting Pangborn, an established hero from several novels and films, into a wintry new mystery, we get one of the most gruesome deaths Uncle Stevie never wrote.
Based on the first hour, is Castle Rock worth your time? Undoubtedly. There's a richness to this story that's sensed right off the bat, as is Abrams' penchant for "mystery box" storytelling.
