Kim Gordon grew up the oldest of three children in Wyckoff, New Jersey. On her maternal grandmother's side, she was part of the Dutch community that settled the area. Like many of the post-war era, she was lucky enough to have piano lessons and dance classes, sing in several music groups and perform with two different drama groups. The piano lessons were a failure, but she stuck with all the other projects through her graduation from Ramapo Regional High School in Franklin Lakes. She attended Lycoming College and graduated with a major in psychology and a minor in theater. She moved to Maine as a "back-to-the-lander" in the 70's and lived in a mountain-top house without running water or electricity for seven years. In Maine, she met Richard Sewell, co-founder of The Theater at Monmouth, a summer classical repertory company. First cast in 1977, she was challenged to perform Shakespeare, Chekhov, Moliere and Shaw in daily rotation and credits these summers with building her acting chops. She married Sewell and raised two children with him in Maine, while continuing to act and teaching a Gifted and Talented program in Theater for Central Maine high schools. Kim lives in Portland, Maine, she works on stage, film and commercial projects while doting on three small and totally charming grandchildren.
