American Horror Story - Season 4 Episode 03: Edward Mordrake (1)
American Horror Story: Freak Show begins its set in Jupiter, Florida in 1952, and follows the lives of a troupe of people belonging to one of the last remaining freak shows of its time. A troupe of curiosities has just arrived to town, coinciding with the strange emergence of a dark entity that savagely threatens the lives of townsfolk and freaks alike. This is the story of the performers and their desperate journey of survival amidst the dying world of the American carny experience.
Halloween is obviously a time for telling spooky stories about ghosts and goblins, and for its part, American Horror Story: Freak Show wants to take part in the tradition.
As opposed to last week, the new characters ushered in during "Edward Mordrake (Part 1)" are more well-rounded and generally more interesting, which makes for a fun episode.
American Horror Story's gotten too long-winded for its own good. The pace is sluggish and a lot of the fear and urgency is quickly draining from the series.
It's Halloween in Florida, which means clowns and clowns and clowns. It's also that very special time of year when people who've lived rough lives somehow discover a new low.
