Dr. Arden conducts mysterious experiments in his lab at Briarcliff that seem to be related to the disappearance of four patients and the late night trips into the woods by Sister Mary Eunice, bringing wheelbarrows of meat to unidentified monsters outside.Arden has the tacit permission of Monsignor Howard to continue unsupervised. He quickly draws the suspicion of Sister Jude, but doesn't see her as a real threat as long as he has the Monsignor on his side. His dark work aligns with his dark desires, which come cloaked in the artifice of purity. Perhaps because of this, he is strongly drawn to the chaste Sister Mary Eunice, and he sees her as both a pet and trusted assistant. His unknown past gives him the arrogance to continue with his work without fear of discovery and the murky morality not to be bothered by grotesque nature of his experiments. He believes the human brain is the key to the human psyche, and keeps jars of them in his lab. He claims to be a man of science but is willing to accept non-scientific explanations for events when presented with incontrovertible evidence. Background: Former supervising physician at Briarcliff when it was a tuberculosis ward. Loves fine wine and classical music, especially Chopin. Anti-Semitic. Show less «
