The Terminator, specifically the T-800 Series Model 101 is a cybernetic organism sent back in time from a post-apocalyptic future in an effort to carry out its mission of either protection or assassination. It is living tissue such as skin, hair, eyes, and fingernails growing over a seemingly indestructible metal that acts as a skeleton and CPU. In times of extreme combat the metal skeleton can be seen where patches of skin have been destroyed. The T-800 has been sent back from a future where machines became artificially intelligent. A program of A.I was developed by Cyberdine systems, and was incorporated into a United States military program known as Skynet. However, Skynet had been gaining more and more control and ultimately had access to every computer on the planet. When the US fully activated Skynet, at that point it had complete control, and acted systematically to eliminate the only threat to it: humans. For protection, it launched nuclear weapons humans had built and killed approximately 3 billion people in the initial attack. The attack started a new war between man and machine and subsequently the T-800 was developed years later. By appearing human it proved advantageous on the battlefield for infiltration and assassination. However the humans had united under a leader John Connor, and proved they were not going to give up at all. The machines in an effort to stop this problem sent back a T-800 back in time to kill John Connor's mother, Sarah. The humans also sent back a soldier to protect Sarah, Kyle Reese. Reese fell in love with Sarah while on his mission, and consequently became John's father. Reese died trying to destroy the T-800 using homemade dynamite however, but Sarah survived the T-800, crushing it using factory equipment. The machines sent back a new model, a T-1000 when John was ten, and the humans again sent back a T-800 series Model 101 that Connor captured and re-programmed to protect John. John and T-800 fled the T-1000, and saved his mother who had been sent to a mental facility. While on the run Connor essentially programmed the T-800 to act human, teaching him human expressions, and trying to impose human thought on it. The T-800 despite being a less superior model completed its mission destroying the T-1000, and consequently self terminated to eliminate any trace of the future. This was heartbreaking for John who had grown very emotionally attached to the model. When John was a young adult in our time line, he fell off the grid. The machines in the future sent back a newer far superior model to kill some of his lieutenants in the resistance because John could not be located. They sent a T-X, programmed for cybernetic combat. An anti-terminator terminator The humans sent back a T-800 based on John's previous experience. The T-800 at that point was an obsolete model, and nearly failed his mission when the T-X tried to program it to kill John. The T-800 nearly killed John, but was experiencing conflicting mission objectives. John appealed to it however, telling it that it was about to fail its mission. As such the T-800 powered down and restarted. In a final stand it held off the T-X long enough for John to escape to safety in a fallout shelter. The T-800 told John We will meet again before he terminated the T-X. The final attack on John happened immediately before Judgment Day, the nickname for the day when the bombs fell. Show less «
