Ed Traxler was a hard-working, pragmatic, honest cop about seven years from retirement when he died in the line of duty. Ed was in charge of the task force on the so-called phone book killer - a one-day serial killer who attacked three women named Sarah Connor in the order their names appeared in the phone book. At first, Ed's instinct was to keep the press away from the case, to prevent sensationalism and panic. When the second woman was killed, however, he decided to use them and gave an interview, hoping that the third Sarah Connor would hear, and contact him.She did, but things didn't go quite as planned. Before he could get a patrol car to the club she called from, the killer showed up and blasted the place apart, then evidently pursued her and another individual by killing a young police officer and using that car. When the chase was over, the killer had escaped, but Connor and the strange individual who rescued her, were brought in for questioning and protection. The individual was one Kyle Reese, who had a truly bizarre story in which he and the killer came from the future, and the killer was evidently a robot trying to assassinate the mother of it's worst enemy. Of course, Ed didn't take any of it seriously, but he did regard Sarah Connor's life as being in danger, and he made sure to hold here in the station, where he and thirty other officers could protect her. This proved an unfortunate decision. When the killer crashed in, armed to the teeth, he quickly dispatched all of the policemen. including Ed. Witnesses were certain that the man was hit multiple times as the police offered an armed response, but even when Ed's close friend Hal Vukovich hit him with an M-16, there was no stopping him. It would take more than Lieutenant Ed Traxler to stop the Terminator.
