Shelley Simon was a student at Tree High School. Once known for being 'friendly', she decided in her Senior year to start 'Clean Teens' - a group of teenagers who chose to abstain from having sex until they were married.The inspiration from Clean Teens came after becoming pregnant to her boyfriend at church camp the summer before her senior year. When her parents found out, they took her away from camp early, forced her to have an abortion and banned her from having contact with her boyfriend. She had hoped that she would be able to be with her boyfriend once back at school, but on the first day back she discovered he had a new girlfriend.Because of the upset over having had the abortion, when she believes Brooke Davis to be pregnant, she encourages Brooke to keep her baby and join Clean Teens.She has a brief relationship with Mouth McFadden. He asks her to prom, and she accepts. At a pre-prom party at Deb's house, Mouth and Shelley end up sleeping together. When Skills walks in accidentally, she gets upset and consequently tells Mouth they cannot be a couple or go to prom together.They make amends at Rachel's party after graduation, when Mouth stands up to Shelley's ex-boyfriend who tries to humiliate her making her out to be a slut.
