Scaroth, last of the Jagoroth (a vicious, callous, war-like race), became fractured in time as he attempted to leave primordial Earth around 4,000,000 B.C. He wasn't aware his spaceship's atmospheric thrust motors were disabled as he engaged his warp drive. Seated directly in the warp field, the consequential explosion splinted his being into twelve bits and scattered them across Earth's history along twelve separate points. While the explosion marked the end of the Jagoroth race, the massive dose of radiation from the explosion fused amniotic fluids in the primordial soup nearby, marking the start of life on Earth life that would eventually produce the human race.Left fractured across time yet consciously connected to all his separated selves and able to function as a whole, Scaroth sought a second chance and used his existences across time to mold the human race toward a point where they could develop time travel and send him to a juncture where he could stop himself from engaging his warp drive and blowing himself to pieces (in effect, saving the Jagoroth race while preventing humans from ever entering into existence). In 1979 he appears as Count Scarlioni in Paris. In 1505 he appears as Captain Tancredi in Florence. He's even seen as someone in ancient Egypt. In all cases he is the same - a refined but ruthless man.The development of time travel will be expensive, so Scaroth uses his past selves to acquire and horde items he knows will become rare and valuable, selling them at the highest amounts possible to fund his time research in 1979. His ruthlessness becomes evident in his plan to steal the Mona Lisa. As Captain Tancredi, he commissions Leonardo de Vinci himself to paint six exact copies of his own masterwork, knowing, as Count Scarlioni, that he can find buyers for all six, plus the stolen original, in 1979, and thereby gain a fortune. It is this very ruthlessness and smug confidence over the humans that eventually brings him to the attention of The Doctor and to his downfall. Show less «
