She is a witch from the Gemini clan. She has a twin brother who is also a witch. the Gemini clan has this tradition that at certain age the pair of twins with the most powers has to undergo a ritual in which the most powerful twin sort of eats the other one, gaining their powers and then becomes the new clan head. She meets Bonnie first and dupes her into teaching her magic when she already knows a lot. They meet at the University. As the story continues she and her twin brother get mixed up in vampire problems and bring in the witchcraft problems for Elena, Damon and Stephan. Her long lost sister surfaces as a doctor and gets hitched by the hot professor/vampire hunter and they eventually marry. Also another brother appears that is the sister's twin brother that got locked up in a parallel dimension and is brought back to bring chaos. Almost kills Bonnie, Bonnie is locked in the dimension with Damon, Elena wants to forget about Damon. And lots and lots of plot twists more happen because of Liv.
