Joan Campbell is the head of the CIA's Domestic Protection Division (DPD) and one of the few women in a leadership position at Langley. She was formerly a stand-out field operative and sees some of herself in Annie Walker, whom she tries to protect from herself and the dangers of the job. Joan's soft spot for Annie often comes across like tough love, which Annie doesn't always understand. She nearly fires Annie in the premiere for breaking protocol. Joan will cut Annie slack occasionally when she goes against orders, but she also thinks Annie takes too many dangerous liberties and is too trusting.Joan is equally supportive of Auggie, and is sensitive to his struggles in adjusting from being in the field to being blind and at a desk.She is not initially a fan of Jai Wilcox, especially when Arthur places him in her division without asking her.Joan is married to Arthur Campbell, the head of Special Operations .
