August Auggie Anderson is the blind Field-Ops Support agent in the Technical Operations Department within the Domestic Protection Division. He has been with the CIA about four years when the series begins. He usually backs up Annie on her missions from in front of his many Braille-outfitted computers.Annie is used to being able to call Auggie with a problem and have him solve it remotely with his computer wizardry. Both Arthur, the head of Special Operations, and Joan Campbell, the head of the Domestic Protection Division, rely heavily on Auggie, who is the figurative eyes and ears of Langley and always seems to know what's going on. He has a sense of humor about his blindness and often makes jokes at his expense. He is sarcastic, but good natured.Auggie strikes up a friendship with Annie immediately, sensing that she needs guidance and someone to vent to when CIA protocol drives her nuts. They often head to Allen's Tavern to unwind.Auggie was in a yearlong relationship with Natasha Petrovna, a Russian hacker, before the series began, but the CIA ordered him to end it. He did, leaving for Iraq and the mission on which he lost his sight. He is later in a relationship with a reporter named Liza Hearn and then with Parker Rowland, the younger sister of a deceased soldier from his unit in Iraq. Background: Auggie is a former CIA special (field) operative who had to transition to desk work after he was blinded on a mission called Jack of Diamonds with Army Special Forces in Iraq. Despite his disability, he retains some of his hand-to-hand combat skills and helps Annie hone hers.He was born in Glencoe, Illinois, a Chicago suburb on Lake Michigan. Auggie won two high school state championships in wrestling. He has four older brothers and was an Eagle Scout. He is a jazz aficionado and is particularly partial to Charles Mingus.
