Dr. Mann was a brilliant astronaut and scientist born in the year 2018. His early life is unknown, but in the year 2053, he was part of the Lazarus Missions with NASA, having been one of twelve astronauts having been sent into space to explore potentially habitable worlds. He landed on an icy and inhospitable planet having given the thumbs up beacon back on Earth and placed himself in cryosleep not too long after landing. After 35 years in cryosleep, he is rescued by astronauts Joe Cooper and Amelia Brand to explore the planet. He takes Cooper to explore the planet for an area he has declared habitable, but in actuality, it is a trap for him to kill Cooper and take the Endurance back to Earth himself and for him to escape. Mann tries to take himself and hijack the Endurance, but is unsuccessful and inadvertently kills himself in the process after the spacecraft does not lock with the Endurance. He causes the Endurance to dismantle, forcing the remaining crew of Cooper and Brand to operate the remaining shuttlecraft on manual controls to proceed to Edmond's Planet. Show less «
