Joe Cooper was born in Dalhart, Texas in the year 2030. He spent his childhood in a series of traumatic events of famine of nations against each other. He was a very bright student with an interest in space travel and engineering while at the University of Colorado in Denver. There, he met his future wife Lois and his son Tom was born in 2050 while he was still a student. He graduated and became a space shuttle test pilot for NASA. A few years after having served in his occupation, Cooper was forced to settle for farm life in near abysmal conditions at an old farmhouse near Lamar, Colorado, which was owned by his father in law. His wife had died in 2064 from a brain tumor and he took on the role as a single parent to his children Tom and Murph. In the spring of 2065, Cooper had inadvertently found the headquarters of the supposedly defunct NASA at an old abandoned bunker near Colorado Springs and bumped into his old boss, Professor Brand, and was requested to be the pilot of a spacecraft to explore three potential planets for humans to colonize because the Earth is dying from famine. He reluctantly took the job, despite his family responsibilities.Cooper spent over two and a half years his time in space to explore, with 99% of his time spent in cryosleep in between missions, but a total of 89 years had passed due to 23 years Earth time on Miller's Planet, which was only 3 hours for him, and most of the remainder of the time exploring Mann's Planet and pulling out of a gravitational force of a black hole, which cost at least 51 years, with another 13 unaccounted for. He found out the truth while at the event horizon of the black hole that he was the ghost that his daughter believed in behind a bookcase at their old farmhouse. He sent data of the black hole to a wristwatch to 10 year old Murph that set the watch up for him to give a signal.he gave her, which she did not find out until 23 years later, not long after he left Miller's Planet.Cooper came out of the event horizon, after having sent the quantum data through the wristwatch, into the orbit of Saturn and rescued by a space ranger and woke up to find himself on a space station named after his daughter, since she was the initiator to get the space stations going off Earth from the black hole gravity equation and people to safety. It was a cylindrical replica of the community he lived in. He spends almost 2 weeks at his now restored old farmhouse waiting for her arrival to see her and still restless and frustrated at the artificial surroundings. He reunites with his 99 year old daughter Murph, who is dying and surrounded by her descendants and she tells him to go on with the mission and catch up with his partner Brand, who is now colonizing Edmond's Planet, which is livable. He steals a spaceship and leaves the station, knowing it's not where he belongs. Show less «
