A car salesman in his old life, Dale belies the stereotype with his calm and careful demeanor, never attempting to sell his ideas to anyone. Rather, Dale advocates for meaningful discussion often acting as the survivors moral compass in a post-apocalyptic world where right and wrong isnt always so clear to others. Dale saves Amy and Andrea, forming a close, father-daughter like bond with the latter. Eventually, he begins to clash with Shane, who thinks Dales insistence on retaining the rules of civilized society to be, at best, antiquated and, at worst, dangerous. Dale is also a good mechanic, working with Glenn who also sees the older man as a mentor to keep the groups RV from falling apart.
