The style adds to the creeping dread of these scenes in a way that isn't found in the manga. Even with all that, Emma, who is effectively the lead protagonist, is a breath of fresh air.
CloverWorks studio's adaptation of the manga with the same name wants to challenge the notion that horror doesn't work in animation, with a story that is as terrifying as it is emotional and simply adorable.
The Promised Neverland doesn't quite live up to the hype just yet, but for all its flaws it is still a rock solid and entertaining thriller that provides a new spin on Shonen content.
That's kind of why I loved The Promised Neverland anime; it's never just one thing, but ends up being a well-rounded show that constantly challenges the audience's idea of what it really is.
