It is a series of comedy by a girl who is facing a bad fate after being kicked out of her longtime job. Now, after being kicked out of her job and thrown out by her boyfriend, that girl is trying to look for a new job. Over time, the girl who was the cosmetics saleswoman becomes a nanny for the three children of a rich British widow. Perhaps there will be more challenges facing that girl as well as those strange things that appear over time.
The show was, regardless of how over-the-top it may have seemed (the nasal laugh that ended all nasal laughs, those hilarious under-the-breath insults from Niles), undeniably relatable.
But instead of being a mere reheating of the old format, The Nanny is fresh and markedly sassy, thanks to a spirited and altogether winning performance by Fran Drescher in the title role.
The writing in the show is only average... But Fran Drescher alone makes The Nanny worth a look for those who like their comedy with a dose of chutzpah.
