The comedy is about the daily life of the over-the-top glamorous center of a long-running telenovela who does not speak Spanish, despite being the center of attention from her co-stars and the crew around her.
Writers Chrissy Pietrosh and Jessica Goldstein, from "Cougar Town" and "My Name Is Earl," find a way to create an ensemble of characters around Longoria who are broad caricatures and yet recognizably human.
A comedy that strains for fizzy yet comes off as frantic, like so many other network comedies this show wastes great actors -- in particular the divine Eva Longoria -- on bad writing.
Silly and eccentric but not quite graceful enough to be considered irreverent, producer/star Eva Longoria's eager commitment to the premise still allows Telenovela to crackle with great jokes and solid physical comedy.
While Telenovela employs a lot of Latin actors, it doesn't give them enough good lines to make the latest entry in the Too Much Television universe worth your time.
