The Grinders is a new comedy about two brothers: one a spotlight-grabbing actor who plays TV’s most popular lawyer and the other, a real-life, small-town attorney who has yet to find his spotlight. Television lawyer Dean Sanderson moves back to his small home town after a stint in Hollywood thinking his time on TV qualifies him to run his family's law firm.
It works because, instead of running from them, it embraces and celebrates the conventions of broadcast TV. It doesn't try to be a cable series. In a strange way this season, that makes it the cool show.
Rob Lowe and Fred Savage play brothers, which by itself requires a massive suspension of disbelief. Savage's Stewart Anderson is a lawyer, and Lowe's Dean Anderson plays one on TV. WORLDS COLLIDE.
