In a televisual world where cross over shows and meandering twenty three film sagas have altered our way of viewing permanently, it is nice to know that Supergirl has no intention of dropping the ball.
"Event Horizon" is a pleasant return to the Supergirl world, one that strikes a nice balance between character-centric ensemble storytelling and narrative worldbuilding.
Let's move on to more positive things, like all the love that's happening this season... Alex and Kelly are super cute, but there was not much development on this episode.
Last season ended on a pretty ominous note after a very politically-heavy season, and Supergirl Season 5 Episode 1, "Event Horizon," feels like the perfect reentry into the National City we know and love.
Overall, Supergirl season five is off to a strong start. The premiere episode has more plot than it knows what to do with... However, the premiere is greatly helped by both the addition of some strong new cast members.
