To the show's credit, the emphasis of the show is less on its gung-ho action sequences than it is on the close-knit team of people conducting those complicated missions.
Creator Benjamin Cavell and his writers pay valuable attention to character and dialogue. It may not rise to the level of Homeland, but at least we see the SEAL team and others as more than action figures.
Like the other military drama shows debuting this fall, SEAL Team is meant as a tribute to our fighting men. It's solid, if not going into new territory.
But there's also a sense of complexity oozing into propaganda, a complicated view of international situations getting sandpapered into video-game binaries, morose good guy and looming bad guy.
