About 15 months since the events in the first series, Alan has continued his adventure to rescue Julia. After being discredited by the CDC due to his reckless actions of killing immortals, Alan now has only three men on his side on the quest. Meanwhile, Julia is on a quest of her own.
While this show is known for its insane twists and turns, Helix Season 2 Episode 1 definitely takes the cake... I love that the second season feels like a reboot.
The new location and vastly different stakes have really given the show a breath of fresh air, and have created an environment where Helix could, in theory, go on for many more seasons.
Helix does a fine job of creating a creepy vibe in its second-season opener, and though a lot of information from the first season has to be re-established, the drama hits the ground running and quickly builds up an effectively mysterious atmosphere.
Helix is the stoned college sophomore of television: full of weighty philosophical notions and fun ideas, but no clue how to explain them or execute its plans.
