The fourth season will find Matt facing serious financial woes, which he’ll handle poorly, obviously, while Sean and Beverly are forced to shoot more episodes of their ruined sitcom Pucks! in Los Angeles.
It has Joey from Friends in the shape of Matt LeBlanc, playing himself, Matt, as an older, greyer and slappably unwiser version of Joey from Friends! It has Tamsin Greig! And Kathleen Rose Perkins! And it's really underwhelming!
Episodes is staged more like a drama than a standard sitcom, but its deft dissection of American network TV makes it one of the funniest shows on television.
While it may not be the biting satire the show was in its early seasons, there is enough substance here for fans of the construct to remain happily tuned in.
More of the same from Episodes: nothing dire, but nothing particularly clever or original either. Once again, the humour was largely supposed to be found in Matt LeBlanc playing a wildly exaggerated version of himself, but this send-up is growing tired.
