Big Little Lies - Season 2 Episode 03: The End of the World
The second season presents a new series of powerful drama, as Renata faces a different course of her life when Gordon comes down to a legal and Korean problem that asks Jane a new question about the 'practice' date. On the other hand, Celeste opened to Mary Louise for her relationship with Perry in those days, especially after a difficult treatment session with Dr. Rysman, and Pony's mother arrives again, and Ed faces a new path towards Madeleine around a set of secrets.
The more we find out about the pasts of these perfect-on-the-surface women... it helps explain so much about their current efforts to keep the facades as perfect as they are.
Big Little Lies has long danced rather gracefully around the murky issue of abuse entangled with sexual desire, but are they actually going there now? Really going there? Yes, yes they are.
What's extremely interesting about this season of Big Little Lies is that, no matter what, everyone has their time to come to terms with their actions.
While there are several standout moments throughout, The End of The World is overall a filler episode. Many of the season's overarching plots take a pause for each of the characters to practice some uncomfortable introspection.
Sorry to break out some House Greyjoy wisdom here, but this second season is thoroughly weighed down by Perry's presence, and although this episode drags a little bit, perhaps it's because [it] is really dark.
As we approach the midway point, this latest hour shows how enjoyable and affecting this new Big Little Lies can be, while still repeating the same beats shown previously.
