Season 5 opens with a deadly new criminal, Tobias Church, threatening Star City, which forces Oliver to consider forming a new team of superheroes to help him do battle. In flashbacks, Oliver faces off against the Bratva in Russia.
The Recruits was a solid follow up to Arrow Season 5 Episode 1. It introduced us to the new team and set up some of the storylines for the coming weeks.
Three bands of recruits, three stories, all woven together in a pretty effective way. This is a good sign for the show... The tighter writing shows through, as does the better fight choreography.
Arrow winds up saving The Recruits by giving its primary plots a semblance of progression they needed in order to keep the audience's interest and intimate new drama in the weeks ahead.
We pinned our hopes on the second outing from this series of Arrow to up the ante and start to give us something to care about, and it tried. It really did.
