Zuko is a prince from the Fire Nation royal family and a firebending master. At 13, he is banished from tribe for disrespecting his father, Fire Lord Ozai, by speaking out of turn, and initially hopes to regain his honor as Crown Prince by capturing the Avatar, which at the time is a fool's errand because the Avatar hadn't been seen for nearly 100 years.He spends nearly three years at sea searching, along with his wise and peaceful Uncle Iroh, until one day he saw the pillar of blue light coming from the distance and correctly guessed it was the Avatar- it was Aang being freed from the Avatar State by Katara and Sokka.Zuko remains close on the trail of the Avatar group and they have many encounters and close calls, until, with the encouragement of his Uncle Iroh, Zuko eventually starts to question why he's pursuing them and begins to have a change of heart.Background: He bears a distinctive scar on the left side of his face, which he earned along with his banishment. He was born in 83 ASC to Ozai and Princess Ursa. His father and his sister Azula made life hard for him growing up, subjecting him to ridicule.His status as a bender was uncertain when he was born because he lacked the distinctive spark in his eyes, causing his father to look upon him with shame. Ozai had to be stopped by the Fire Sages from banishing his infant son.As a three-year-old while on vacation to Ember Island, Zuko rescued a turtle crab from an eagle hawk, only to realize he was depriving the bird of its food. As he was debating what to do, he was swept out to sea and nearly drowned.He learned the art of fighting with dual dao swords from Piandao, the swordmaster, and also becomes skilled in combat using just his hands. He takes on the persona of the Blue Spirit when he wants to sneak or spy without being detected.He and his cruel sister Princess Azula clearly have different outlooks on the world, with Zuko tending toward kindness and mercy as a child.His father Ozai snatches the title of Fire Lord under dubious circumstances that also coincided with the disappearance of Zuko's mother.
