Way Cool Guy appears in Season 1's episode Nightmares, in which a comatose boy is causing the locals to find themselves living their nightmares. Giles warns, Things are getting worse. In a few hours, reality will fold completely into the realm of nightmares. The Cool Guy (known in some transcripts as the Punk) is a student at Sunnydale High School. He wears sunglasses to school and his dark hair is combed into a small pompadour. In the hallway between classes, Xander overhears him boasting to his friends about an opponent: Hey, if he wants to fight, then I'm takin' him down. I'm not backin' off on this. This is about honor. I'll break his neck! Xander grins when Cool Guy's mother suddenly appears in the hall. The kid is appalled when she rushes up to him.She exclaims, Oh, there's my little baby! and hugs and kisses him.The Punk protests, Mom, what are you doing here? Mom... His mother continues to humiliate him by pinching his cheek and asking, How's my little pookie? Perhaps because the nightmare reality demands truth, he pleads, Mom, Mom, please don't kiss me in front of the guys! It's embarrassing, Mom! Please! But Mom cheerfully laughs. You cute little rascal, you! Way Cool Guy tries one more time: Mom... Thanks, but Mom, please, my friends are right here... And his friends are laughing at him. So much for his tough guy stance.Way Cool Guy was played by actor Johnny Green, who debuted in Back to the Future (1985) as Scooter Kid #1 and who went on to act in Say Anything... (1989) and in a variety of TV shows and films. Perhaps appropriately (in a wry way), he played the nightmarish Headless Man in the film Monster Man (2003).
