The character 'Richard Crosby' appears in two episodes of 'Friends' as Joey's co-star in a film about America's involvement in World War 1. His film character is 'Vincent', a soldier who discovers that Joey's film character has been sleeping with his wife for two years, resulting in a sword fight between the two.As an actor, Crosby first appears to be friendly, yet serious. He seems slightly offended when Joey believes him to have won an Oscar, when in actual fact he lost (three times). However, he does not appear to hold this against Joey. One of his acting techniques is to annunciate in a rather extreme way, causing him to often get spittle on Joey's face. Whilst we first think this is an accidental flaw, when confronted, Crosby acknowledges his spitting and has Joey embrace it as part of acting. Despite losing out on the Oscars, we can assume he is quite a well-known and respected actor, as Joey is in awe of him and shows Crosby respect even when he, Joey, is irritated by his behaviour. Its also mentioned that Crosby has played various Shakespeare characters; giving us insight into his usual or previous type of work. His dedication to this particular role is shown in part when he asks Joey to run lines with him during a filming break. However, we see a different side to Richard Crosby when, on the day of Monica and Chandler's wedding, he shows up to work drunk. There is no explanation as to why he has been drinking, but his inability to act properly (barely able to stand or to speak clearly) and his drunken antics delay Joey so much that he almost doesn't make it to the wedding in time to officiate.
