Ralphie is one of the most dangerous and ruthless members of the Soprano family. Tony dislikes him so much he says, If this guy were drowning, I'd throw bricks at him. Ralphie whips in the Aprile crew into shape after Richie Aprile leaves, but Ralph makes news headlines from torching rival garbage trucks. Although he is responsible for this for making his family a lot of money, Tony chooses Gigi Cestone as captain. Ralph is angered by this and often makes remarks to Gigi and Tony. But, the real feud between Tony and Ralph begins when Ralph begins to snort cocaine and date a stripper at the Bing named Tracee. Ralph becomes violent one night after using drugs and watching gladiator movies, he hits Bada Bing bartender Georgie in the eye. Later after being insulted by Tracee, he takes her outside, after discussing her pregnancy he calls her a whore. They fight, and Ralphie kills her. Tony is infuriated and hits Ralph, this causes drama because Ralph is a made guy. He complaines about Tony saying, A, he hit me, B, she was a whore. For a long time, Tony and Ralph can't stand spend any time with one another and Ralph even considers switching families and joining Johnny Sack, but John is able to settle the fight between Ralph and Tony with an apology Ralph also dates Roe and tries to help her son Jackie Jr. make his way up in the mafia. Oblivious to Tony's intention of keeping Jackie Jr. out of the life, Ralph gives him a gun. He also tells Jackie Jr. a story of how Tony and Jackie Sr. robbed Feech La Mana's card game, gave the money back, and then hit the fast track to getting made. Jackie Jr. and his crew try doing the same thing, but end up killed Sunshine and injuring Furio. Tony gives Ralph the position of captain after Gigi is no longer able to perform his duties, and Tony leaves the decision of weather or not to kill Jackie Jr. in Ralph's hands. Although Tony says it's Ralph call, Tony is very sarcastic when he talks to him. Both Tony and Ralph tell their families that Jackie Jr. was involved in drugs, and use that as their alibi as to why Jackie Jr. ends up dead and shot. The hot blood between Ralph and Tony seems to have cooled down by season four, Ralph makes a joke about Johhny Sack's wife saying she had a 93 pound mole removed from her ass. When the joke gets to John, he is infuriated and wants Ralph killed. Tony defends Ralph saying no kind of remark was made. Even though Tony doesn't like Ralph, he is one of his captains, and Tony has to protect him. With Carmine's blessing, Tony sanctions a hit on Johnny Sack, while Johnny Sack on his own sanctions one on Ralph. Both hits are called off just in time. Ralph helps deal with Native American issue and is a huge help in Tony's investments on redeveloping housing. The two also bond over Pie-O-My, Ralph's racehorse. Ralph (although reluctantly) shares his winnings with Tony and the horse. Tony grows very close with the Pie-O-My, and with Ralph's girlfriend Valentina La Pez. Ralph's world is then turned upside down when his sun Justin is injured while playing with a bow and arrow. In the hospital Ralph's anger is unleashed on Justin's friend who accidently shot him, but then Ralph donates to the church and seems to be reevaluating his life. During this stressful time, Tony visits Ralph and tells him that Pie-O-My was killed in a stable fire. Ralph has an oh well approach to it and Tony assumes that Ralph burned the stable down because the horse had been losing. The two engage in a vicious hand to hand fight and Tony chokes Ralph to death. But...Ralph's story does not end here. Tony brings Christopher over and the two of them cut of Ralph's hands and head and place them in a bowling bag. Ralph's body is tossed over a cliff into the water and the bowling bag is placed underground. Later, it is implied that subconsciously, Tony killed Ralph because of the death of Tracee.
