Patricia Eden is an executive at Eden Books, a publishing house. She once tried to hire former bookstore owner Kathleen Kelly as a children's book editor, but was turned down. Patricia is notorious for her energy ( She makes coffee nervous ) and a tendency toward ruthlessness and holding grudges. However, she is also active in the charitable activities of organizations like PEN.Patricia enjoys a challenge, and is a fan of the writing of Frank Navasky, despite finding some of his references difficult to fathom. At one time, she was romantically linked to Joe Fox, of the Fox & Sons bookstore chain. It is rumored that she snores. In what purported to be the original screenplay, Patricia's position is identified as Managing Editor. One of the authors she works with is Veronica Grant, the woman stuck in the elevator with Joe and Patricia. After her break-up with Joe, Patricia has a chance encounter in a cab with a rabbi. This leads her to rediscover her roots, and apparently to a romantic relationship with the rabbi. None of this made it into the final film.
