Olivia Dunham (Anna Torv)Olivia is an FBI Special Agent assigned to a multi-agency task force of the U.S. Department of Homeland Security called the Fringe Division investigating something called ZFT and The Pattern. She often works with Peter Bishop and Peters father Walter, a notorious scientist and researcher. Olivias stubbornness, determination and extreme focus make her a formidable investigator.Olivia initially partners with Walter and Peter after she encounters a mysterious, deadly toxin while pursuing a suspect in a major case. She finds Walter in the FBI's database, and based on records of his previous research, believes he may be able to assist in the investigation. When she discovers that Walter has been housed in a mental institution for 17 years, Olivia tracks down his estranged son Peter to facilitate his release in order to bring him in as a consultant on the case.Olivia has Walter's old lab reopened, and the case irrevocably changes Olivia's personal life and career path. Olivia, Walter and Peter decide to continue working together as part of Fringe Division.Background: After earning a B.S. in Psychology and Criminology from Northwestern University, Dunham served as a United States Marine Corps special investigator. She was responsible for the successful prosecution of a man charged with sexually assaulting three Marine Corps Privates. However, her win on this case would later result in an enmity between her and FBI agent Phillip Broyles, who was the man's friend.
