Martin 'Marty' Mikalski was one of the five college youths selected as a North American Ancient Ones Appeasal Sacrifice for the 2012 Appeasal ritual as 'The Fool' and was portrayed by Fran Kanz. He served as the film's comic relief and was a constantly smoking cannabis conspiracy theorist with a light-hearted attitude and and friendly personality. He was a longtime friend of Dana Polk, Curt Vaughan and Jules Louden's as well as a former Freshman hall fling of Jules'. Marty from the moment of arrival at Curt's cousin's alleged holiday cabin was instantly suspicious. Marty had checked into Room 2 and clicked on immediately to everybody else's strange manipulated behaviour, in particular Jules and Curt's. Marty had remained immune to the Chem Department's drugs despite his cannabis being tampered with as he possessed a secret stash within the coffee bong passed off as a simple travelling mug. Marty in the cellar almost unleashed the Nightmare creature 'Kevin' by unreeling the film strip which would summon him. Marty had been the only one to protest Dana reading the Latin inscription in the diary of Patience Buckner. Following Jules' death he was saved by Curt from attack from Patience who surfaced with a hatchet in her remaining arm. Whilst in the midst of barricading himself in his room which then became locked up by the Facility's lead technicians he discovered a hidden lamp camera which led him to speculate all that was occurring was part of a twisted reality t.v show. Marty from there was then attacked by Judah Buckner who impaled him in the back with his trowel and dragged him off down an outside woods embankment featuring no cameras where he was believed to have been killed by Judah Buckner, where in actual fact he was able to overpower Judah and dismember him with his own trowel. From there off-screen Marty discovered the elevator in which the Buckner's were sent up from the Facility and found manual overrides which helped prevent the Facility's Demolition Department from blowing up the tunnel when wanted to bar Curt, Dana and Holden's escape. After that point Marty regained his items including his coffee bong as a weapon and later discovered Dana at the lake boardwalk where she was being maimed by Matthew Buckner whom he overpowered and knocked into the water. Marty then brought Dana down into the secret compartment where the Buckner elevator surfaced and explained what had happened with him and discovered from Dana that Curt and Holden had been killed leaving only Dana and him. The two then descended down by the elevator down into the facility where Dana pressed the Purge button releasing all the monsters upon the attacking Facility security attempting to kill Marty. Marty after arming Dana with a gun and descending down into the Chambers of the Ancient Ones had the Director pressure persuade Dana into aiming her gun to kill him in order to prevent the Ancient Ones from rising. Marty however was saved by a released Werewolf which attacked Dana leaving him to deal with the Facility Director who wrestled with him for the confiscated firearm. Patience Buckner who had pursued Marty down into the facility attempted to kill him with her hatchet only to be warned by Dana in time to topple the Director over into her swing. Marty then kicked Patience down into the depths of the Ancient Ones along with the Director's body and joined Dana at her side lighting up a joint to share shortly before he and Dana were killed as an Ancient Ones' hand shot upwards killing them both instantly.
