Martin Crane (John Mahoney)No-nonsense, pragmatic and unassuming, Martin Crane (John Manhoney) is the father of Frasier and Niles Crane. He was married to the Hester Crane for more than 30 years before she passed away. He was a detective in the Seattle Police Department but was forced to retire after being injured on the job. A bullet is lodged in his left hip which causes him to walk with a cane. Although Daphne helps care for him, Martin is very independent and doesn't like to have to rely on anyone. He is rarely seen without his beloved dog Eddie.Still devoted to his late wife, Martin is reluctant to date. His sons are much more like his late wife, who was a forensic psychiatrist. Although Martin loves his sons, he struggles to connect with them since they have very little in common. Martin loves the outdoors, poker and sports. His sons do not. He is good friends with Roz with whom he shares many common interests. Although his sons may have more book smarts, Martin has much more common sense and is able to offer sage advice. Unfortunately, his sons often ignore their dad's words of wisdom.Martins favorite possession is his well-worn recliner which he loves but Frasier believes is an eye sore in his living room.
