Margaret Maggie O'Keefe joined the US Postal Service in Boston, and was assigned to Cliff Claven to be trained.Though originally scrutinized by Cliff, Margaret proved her mettle as a postal carrier, and soon developed feelings for Cliff. However, in an attempt to rendezvous with him at a hotel, she took her postal vehicle with her, which was in violation of company policy. In the aftermath, after being fired from her position, Margaret contemplated joining UPS, but instead, decided to move north to Canada, and join their postal service. She requested Cliff come with her, but he declined.Margaret returned shortly thereafter, and Cliff considered marrying her. However, Cliff's condition of 'hysterical blindness' (which surfaces when he gets deep into a romantic relationship) ends up almost spoiling their reunion, until Sam tells Margaret about it. It looks like things are looking up, until Cliff develops a new reaction to their relationship, that paralyzes him from the waist down. Needless to say, the two part ways without going further in their relationship. Two years later, Margaret contacted Cliff to say she was returning to Boston, and Cliff chose this time to introduce Margaret to his mother, Esther. Esther is at first cold to Margaret, but they soon warm up to each other regarding their love of trivia. This time, it is Esther who decides the two should wed, and even though Margaret is happy, Cliff claims he is not ready, and not willing to have his Mom make decisions for him. Cliff attempts to carry Margaret out, but the two end up falling down the stairs outside Cheers, leaving Esther to carry them home. Needless to say, Margaret leaves Boston alone again.Margaret's final appearance at the bar came in 1993, when she surprised Cliff and everyone showing up pregnant, and claiming the child is Cliff's! However, this is soon debunked as she later admits to Cliff that the father is someone else, but she came to Boston hoping Cliff would help her and marry her, as she still holds him as a very honorable man. Cliff almost marries Margaret this time, except she receives a call from the biological father, claiming he wants to raise their child.Margaret then bids farewell to Cliff for the last time, but not before telling him they did have intercourse some time before. However, Cliff had a few wine coolers and passed out, but she claims he was good.
