Harriette Baines-Winslow is the matriarch of the Winslow family. She's the smartest and the most assertive at home and work. She is happily married to Carl Winslow and has three children named Edward, Laura and Judy. She has a younger sister named Rachel Crawford and her nephew is Richie. Harriette always keeps a cool head, in contrast to her husband who almost always loses it whenever Eddie gets into trouble and Steve constantly annoys them. No one at work and home dares to make her mad unless they're looking forward to having to deal with her.She started off as an elevator operator at the Chicago Chronicle in Perfect Strangers and until the first season of Family Matters. Next, she went on to become the Head of Security of the Chicago Chronicle and kept her job. That was until Season 5, Episode 4: A Matter Of Principle, she refused to fire any of her members due to budget cuts and she was fired as a result. Since then, she has worked at Ferguson's Department Stores, from worker in the Complaint Department to saleswoman. In Season 9, Episode 8: A Pain In The Harassment, Mr.Ferguson immediately fired the incumbent Mr.Benner. This was because his co-workers backed up her story and he was revealed to been mentally, verbally and emotionally abusive to in his treatment towards them. As a result, he promoted Harriette to both Vice President and Head of Sales, earning her a white-collar job permanently.Harriette sometimes feels that both her husband Carl and her children are very intolerant of Steve, and, feeling so, she often shows some affection and appreciation for Steve. This was shown in Season 6, Episode 21:What's Up Doc. Eddie, Carl and Laura all complained how much he ruined their lives by coming over. This action causes her to set them straight and she railed on her family for not showing any appreciation Urkel for some of the kind things he did for them. Carl challenged her to name one time, she names a thousand of them due to his short term memory. This causes him, Eddie and Laura to reconsider what would've happened if he wasn't around to help them out.
