Twenty-four-year-old Hannah Horvath (Lena Dunham) lives in Greenpoint, Brooklyn where she is desperately trying to fashion a successful career as a writer except she doesn't actually write anything that often. Originally from East Lansing, Michigan, Hannah graduated from Oberlin College and relied on her parents for financial support as she worked in an unpaid internship. When her parents suddenly tell her that they will no longer support her financially, Hannah is forced to at least begin thinking about getting a real job. Hannah is best friends with Marnie, Jessa and Shoshanna. She lives with Marnie, although she is often jealous of her. Hannah is neurotic, self-absorbed, and irresponsible. In short, she doesn't really want to grow up. But she also has a bit of an ego and believes she is the voice, okay a voice, of her generation. Awkward and insecure, Hannah is prone to wearing ill-fitting and unflattering outfits. She has an on-again, off-again relationship with Adam, who is consistently unavailable and hard-to-get. Although she bickers with her friends often, she is loyal and truly wants whats best for them. She is nice to everyone and wants to do what's right whether it is giving to the right charity or saying the right thing about a social issue. But she does have a knack for putting her foot in her mouth. Together, with her friends, she is navigating life one mistake at a time.
