Twenty-three year Marnie Michaels (Allison Williams) is Hannah's best friend and roommate. She attended Oberlin College with Hannah, Jessa, Charlie and Elijah and now lives with Hannah in Greenpoint, Brooklyn. She is also friends with Shoshanna. A classic type A personality, Marnie is much more responsible and sensible than her best friend. She works at an art gallery and dates her serious, long-term boyfriend Charlie. She dresses much older than she actually is and wants her life to be settled and orderly. She naively believes she can skip the difficult parts about growing up. But although Marnie's life may look extremely put together, shes not necessarily happy with her job or her boyfriend. In fact, she may not even like her boyfriend. She takes Charlie for granted and doesn't treat him well. Although she is seemingly brimming with confidence, she is extremely concerned with her appearance. A serial dater, Marnie is almost never without a boyfriend and often uses her good looks as a crutch. She doesn't really know how to go through life without a man, even one she cannot stand, by her side. Those who know her might describe her as icy and off-standish, but she cares deeply about her friends. Marnie can be brutally honest, especially with Hannah. She has no trouble pointing out everyone's shortcomings.
