Gabriela Dawson was initially the Paramedic in charge of Ambulance 61. As of season 3, she is a Candidate firefighter on Truck 81.Dawson is an independent woman who often does what is right even in the face of career consequences.She is the sister of Det. Antonio Dawson, who works on Chicago PD's Intelligence Unit.Along with fellow firefighters Herrman and Otis, she owns a bar called Molly's.Her best friend was fellow Paramedic Leslie Shay. Gabby was devastated by Leslie's death (season 3, episode 1).In season 1, Gabby struggles with increasing feelings for Lt. Matthew Casey, but is also falling for Candidate Mills. Eventually she starts dating Mills, but by the end of the season he breaks up with her after realising she still has feelings for Casey.In season 2, Gabriela finally starts a romantic relationship with Matt. Things are going well between them, they move in together and at the end of the season they even get engaged. However, their engagement is put on hold in season 3, when she takes her firefighter's exam and becomes a candidate on Truck 81. Chief Boden is willing to turn a blind eye to their relationship, but they are not allowed to marry as long as they work on the same team. Eventually, juggling their personal and professional lives turns out to be too difficult for them, so they decide to separate (season 3, episode 10).Gabriela then moves in with the new Paramedic, Sylvie Brett.Some time later, after a very difficult call at Chicago Med, Casey and Dawson release tension by having a one-night stand (season 3, episode 19).
