FBI BAU Special Agent Elle Greenaway was played by Lola Glaudini. She was originally assigned to the FBI Field Office in Seattle; she was then re-assigned to the BAU as an expert in sexual crimes, after demonstrating her skills by assisting the team in capturing a pair of killers. Her father, a police officer, was killed on duty. She is half Cuban and speaks fluent Spanish. At the end of season one she is left shot in her home by an unsub who was angry with the BAU for violating his rules. The unsub even used blood from her wound to write on the walls of her home. She returns to work suspiciously fast. Not long after, she is used as bait for an unsub who serially rapes women in an attempt to impregnate them. However, she panics, compromising the operation and allowing the rapist to walk free. That evening, she stakes out his home and shoots him in cold blood. She claims he pulled a weapon on her and the shooting was in self defense. The local cops cheerfully buy her story and even the FBI clears her, but the team have their suspicions. Neither Hotchner (Thomas Gibson), nor Gideon (Mandy Patinkin) believe it was self defense, but they have no evidence and Elle refuses to confess. Eventually, while still denying any guilt, she turns in her gun and badge and quits the job. She is later replaced in the team by Special Agent Emily Prentiss (Paget Brewster).
