He transfers to Degrassi as a sophomore along with his older step-brother Drew, to escape bullying at his old school. He doesn't plan on revealing that he is transgender, but is outed by Bianca DeSousa. He eventually makes good friends, including Eli Goldsworthy, Clare Edwards, and Imogen Moreno and becomes romantically involved with Becky Baker. His desire to be with Becky leads to a fateful reckless decision. He is the victim of bullying by Mike Fitz Fitzgerald, Owen Milligan and others. He becomes friends with Eli when both are trying to win backstage passes to a Dead Hand concert.
