Dieterich Gray was raised in Galesburg, Illinois. At age 9 his mother brought him with her to audition for the Rogers and Hammerstein musical, South Pacific. He was cast as Jerome (a young Polynesian boy) and did, in fact, appear in brown face. South Pacific was the first of a handful of musicals Dieterich appeared in with his mother.Mr. Gray studied acting at Illinois State University. Upon graduation he was chosen to join Steppenwolf Theatre Company as their Acting Intern. There, he played dead characters and walk-on roles (and also did a fair amount of cleaning up muffin crumbs after nice folks like Gary Sinise, a Steppenwolf founder). Dieterich's time there led him to other fruitful opportunities on our nation's most respected regional stages including Yale Repertory, Goodman Theatre and Washington, DC's Shakespeare Theatre Company to name a few.Dieterich now resides in sunny Los Angeles, California and has had the great fortune to work with the likes of Kristen Wiig, Ryan Kwanten, Daman Wayans, Stacy Keach, Nelsan Ellis and Shira Piven.And it all started at that audition with his mom.
