Acclaimed as one of this generation's next filmmakers to watch, Deon is a Screenwriter, Director and Producer with a diversified genre of storytelling, ranging from Comedies and Dramas, to Sci-Fi's and Thrillers, and even Westerns.Deon is a 1999 graduate from UCLA, with studies in Film/Television Screenwriting and Directing, and a degree in Ancient Civilizations, acquiring specialized knowledge of Egyptian, Babylonian and Biblical History. He garnered creative media experience working for Walt Disney Imagineering for five years, where he assisted in developing projects from theme park 4-D rides to major feature films, such as Pirates of the Caribbean. He has written several pilots and over a dozen feature screenplays, some have reached finalist in major screenplay competitions. He also has experience in casting and supervising such companies as Casting Networks (aka LA Casting).A breakthrough in Deon's Directing career was his highly successful short film "The Don of Virgil Jr. High", which won six Best Film Awards to date, including being a winner in The NBC-Universal Short Cuts, The MVAAFF's HBO Short Film Competition, and an "Official Selection" in The Cannes Independent Film Festival. He directed the pilot "Poetri-n-Motion", starring Tony award winning poet-comedian-actor, Devin "Poetri" Smith, and two other multi-award winning short films: "The Historian Paradox", winner of the Audience Choice Short Film Award in The Big Island Film Festival, an Official Selection in The Comic-Con International Independent Film Festival and nominated Best Drama, Best Actor and Best Writer in the International Television Film Festival; and his latest endeavor, "The Bathroom Attendant", winning Best Short Film in The Urban Mediamakers Film Festival.Deon was also an award winning Radio Personality for KSJS, a student operated radio station covering Northern California's Bay Area, where he Co-Hosted "A Race for the Times", a weekly talk show discussing issues concerning the Urban youth. He also Co-Created and Hosted "The Project Sound Show", a weekly radio program specializing in Hip-Hop Culture that was voted the "Number One" College Radio Program in the Nation two years consecutively.In addition to his career, Deon is an avid martial artist, earning a 2nd Degree Black Belt in TaeKwonDo, a 1st Degree Black Belt in Hapkido, has studied Jeet Kune Do, Jujitsu and Muay Thai for several years, and in his early days held the California State Champion title in TaeKwonDo Competitive Fighting three years.
