The events begins, where Criminals Charlotta and Glail discover that they actually aren’t who they think they are – they’re really actors on a show that airs in Weird City. Their discovery leads them to question their very existence.
In an era where satire can feel dull, Weird City feels like a breath of air. It's a little on the nose. But it's also fully aware that it's on the nose between the Blade Runner references and the meta-textual references.
Has the same targets as the acclaimed Netflix show - our obsession with technology and how it invades our lives and often corrupts our intentions. But it plays these anxieties for laughs.
It's a perfect device for injecting class conflict into what's basically a satirical science fiction fantasy. Of course, like all anthologies, some episodes are better than others.
If Black Mirror is a dark warning sign not to forget our humanity, Weird City is a bright, flashing neon light that pokes fun at us while also reminding us we're probably doomed.
