CRITICS OF "The Great Pottery Throw Down - Season 4"
Observer (UK)
I know it's just a bit of heartwarming skill, leavened this year by a fab new presenter, Derry Girls' Siobhán McSweeney... but sometimes a bit of even manipulated heartwarming is just the very dab after serial killers.
This time out, it has performed a masterstroke and installed Siobhán McSweeney as its Mel and Sue; she blends the wit and warmth of the pairing in one handy package.
Despite the ingenuity of the contestants and their feats of clay, the show was pervaded by a wearying air of dullness and predictability, often leaving viewers as glazed as the featured ceramics.
I wish this show all the best, because it's wholesome and pleasant and because McSweeney provides just the right mix of warmth and dry wit. But I'd rather watch paint dry.
